Titration Competition



The EIT Titration Competition involves teams of three senior (year 12 and 13) students in a Chemistry task encouraging a higher level of practical skill, calculation and cooperation.

Age Group and Team Size

Schools can enter up to two teams of three Year 12/13 students.

 

Length of Competition

1.5 hours

 

Time and Venue

Thursday 9th August, 4.30am – 6.00pm

Science laboratories, EIT Hawke’s Bay, Taradale  (download campus map).

 

Materials Required

Competing teams must provide their own titrating equipment.  Chemicals, indicators and distilled water in suitable containers will be supplied by the organisers. A detailed result sheet will also be provided. 

 

Titrating Equipment to bring per group:, calculators, pens, paper, 9 x beakers, 3 x 20ml or 25ml pipette, 3 x wash bottles, 3 x burettes, 3 x pipette fillers, 3 x funnels, 3 retort stands and clamps, 3 x lab coats, 3 x safety glasses, cleaning cloths

All students must wear covered shoes and have long hair tied back and leave electronic devices in their bags.

 

Judging

Judging will be based entirely on the calculation of concentration of the unknown measured in the titration and not on the method used.

 

Supervision

Schools are expected to ensure that the behaviour of their students is exemplary. Appropriate supervision to achieve this is expected.
